YOUR CHIEF
INSTRUCTOR:
James Kessler
(4th Degree Black Belt)
Mr. Kessler began his formal Taekwon-Do training during his early teens. Like many kids
of his generation, he was inspired to start martial
arts training by such influences as the Karate Kid and the Bruce Lee films.
Never having been especially sporty as a youngster, it came as a surprise as to how he took to his martial arts training.
Over the years Mr. Kessler has sought out the very best instruction in the Martial Arts, having trained under such pioneering masters as;
- The late General Choi Hong Hi 9th DAN (Founder of Taekwon-Do)
- Master Hee Ill Cho 9th DAN,
- Master Willie Lim 8th DAN,
- Master E. Hopwood 8th DAN,
- Master C. Harrison 7th DAN
- The legendary Mr. Tony Sewell 6th DAN (3 times World Super Heavy Weight Champion)
As well as many notable instructors from various martial art styles.
Today, as a qualified, time served 4th Degree Black Belt (tested in 2003) he is considered by his seniors to be one of the leading Taekwon-Do instructors in the country.
Over the years Mr. Kessler has achieved many accolades, including many National Tournament titles, twice winning Black Belt Competitor of the Year, as well as the coveted ‘Instructor of the Year’ award from a major UK Taekwon-Do association.
Mr. Kessler is now better known for his continued development of what is known as ‘Applied Tae Kwon-Do’ The practical application of the (often obscure) traditional Tae Kwon-Do techniques for use in real self defence.
Mr. Kessler continues to place an emphasis on helping his students & their families learn together to the highest standard – benefiting them & their local community.
Mr. Kessler is the founder & Chief Instructor of Universal Martial Arts, and together with his team of instructors continues to work with Shrewsbury Council and Kidsafe™ to bring a greater awareness to the local community on the physical, mental and psychological benefits of a modern Martial Arts education.
